General Tour Ideas
“Rome – At a Glance”
Thursday afternoon, June 24th
This guided tour is designed to give you an overview of this bustling historic city. The bus will depart from the Mèlia Hotel and take you into the heart of the Eternal City to see the striking beautiful corners of Ancient Rome. The excursion will take you by the classic monuments of the Roman Empire, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Venezia, the monument of Vittorio Veneto II, the site of the Unknown Soldier and Piazza del Campidoglio. You will be visiting the Colosseum, Circo Massimo and the Aventino area which is famous for its Basilicas. You will be given time to walk through the ruins of the Roman Forum on its ancient paths. The afternoon will end with a walk to the Spanish Steps.
“Rome – A Closer Look”
Friday Morning departure, June 25th
Bus departure from Melià Hotel for your guided tour of some of the most reknown and beautiful squares of Rome. Piazza Navona: a jewel of the Baroque period in Rome, where we can admire the artwork of two of the most important artists of the the XVII Century: Bernini and Borromini. Not too far from Piazza Navona, you will be visiting the church of San Luigi de’Francesi, famous because of its paintings by Caravaggio. Your tour of the Eternal City will include visits to the Pantheon, the Church of Sant’Ignazio, Piazza Colonna, the Trevi Fountain and Castel Sant’Angelo. Lunch will be served in a typical Roman restaurant followed by a walk through the fascinating district of Trastevere. Back to the hotel in the afternoon.
“The Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s Basilica”
Saturday Morning departure – June 26th
Bus departure at 8.00 a.m. from Melià Hotel for your guided tour of the Vatican Museums and Vatican Galleries. You will be visiting the Candelabra Gallery and the one of Tapestries; the Gallery of Maps, the Sobiesky Room and the Room of the Immaculate Conception. You will be taken to the astonishing Sistine Chapel (Michelangelo’s masterpiece) and the ancient Vatican Library. The last part of the morning is dedicated to a visit of the world famous Saint Peter’s Basilica.
